I often see confusion between herniated discs and sciatica. Here’s a quick breakdown:
Herniated Disc: The soft inner core of a spinal disc bulges outward, potentially irritating nearby nerves. Symptoms can vary but don’t always include leg pain.
Sciatica: This is radiating pain that travels along the sciatic nerve, typically starting in the lower back and buttocks, and extending down the leg. A herniated disc can be a common cause, but other factors can also contribute.
Not all back pain is sciatica, and not all sciatica is caused by a herniated disc!
If you’re experiencing back pain or leg pain, give my office a call for proper diagnosis and treatment.
