As a neurosurgeon specializing in spinal health, I see firsthand the benefits of regular movement for your back. Here are some tips to keep your spine happy and pain-free:
Stay Active Daily. Aim for at least 30 minutes of moderate-intensity exercise most days of the week. Walking, swimming, biking, and dancing are all excellent choices! Find activities that you enjoy. Consistency is the key, so choose something you will stick with.
Strengthen Your Core. Strong core muscles support your spine and improve posture.
Stretch regularly to loosen tight muscles that can contribute to back pain. Focus on your hamstrings, glutes, and lower back.
Be mindful of your posture throughout the day. Stand tall, keep your shoulders back, and avoid slouching.
Remember to listen to our body and don’t push through pain. Take breaks when you need them and modify activities as necessary.
Remember, a healthy spine is a happy spine!
**Please check with your physician before starting any exercise program.
Bonus Tip: Sitting for long periods can be tough on your back. Get up and move around every 30 minutes!
