Dr. Borimir Darakchiev is a board-certified neurosurgeon affiliated with Long Island Brain and Spine, with over 20 years of experience in treating brain, spine, and peripheral nerve disorders.

A second generation neurosurgeon, Dr. Darakchiev proudly follows the career path of his father, who was a prominent, pioneering neurosurgeon in his native Bulgaria. He completed a rigorous academic program at the Medical University in Varna, Bulgaria, and a neurosurgical residency at the Medical Academy in Sofia, Bulgaria’s most prestigious hospital.

Dr. Darakchiev arrived in the early 1990’s, with his wife and two young children, to pursue a successful career in Neurosurgery, in The United States. He completed a second neurosurgical residency and fellowship training in Neurosurgical Oncology and Spine at the University of Cincinnati in Ohio, as well as a fellowship in Neurotrauma and Stroke, at Weill- Cornell College of Medicine in New York, where he is an Assistant Professor. His clinical expertise combines standard surgical methods with state-of-the-art, minimally invasive surgical techniques in treating:

  • Brain tumors – primary, metastatic, and skull based
  • Trigeminal neuralgia, hemifacial spasm, carpal tunnel syndrome, and ulnar nerve entrapment disease
  • Degenerative disc disease of the spine, herniated discs, spinal stenosis, spondylolisthesis, radicular pain, spinal tumors, and trauma to the spine

Dr. Darakchiev is a leading neurosurgeon and a member of the Brain Tumor Program at the recently opened Good Samaritan University Hospital Cancer Center in West Islip, NY.
