How many of you sit on the floor while wrapping gifts? If you suffer from back pain, sitting on the floor to wrap gifts can add strain to the discs in your lower back, aggravating muscles and already existing back pain.
Here are some tips to decrease your risk of back pain so you can enjoy your holiday festivities.
- First, avoid sitting on the floor. Use a counter or a table at waist level with a chair to help maintain your posture when seated. This way, you are using your arms instead of your back.
- Have all gift-wrapping materials on the table within arm’s reach to avoid overextending or overstretching muscles.
- Aim to wrap gifts as you buy them instead of all at the same time to avoid maintaining the same position for a long period of time.
- Make sure to take breaks. Get up to stretch and walk around to loosen up your muscles and joints.
- Consider using gift bags. A festive gift bag with colorful tissue paper makes a beautiful presentation, and there will be less added stress and pain for you.
